THE RULES

Spelling Bee Game Rules

The goal is to find as many words as you can from the seven letters in the hive. Each word needs at least four letters and must include the center letter. Letters may be used more than once, so a word like “alibi” is fine. Proper nouns and hyphenated words are not accepted.

A four-letter word earns 1 point. Longer words earn 1 point per letter, so a six-letter word is worth 6. Every puzzle also hides at least one pangram, a word that uses all seven letters, and a pangram adds a 7-point bonus.

Your rank is based on the share of the puzzle’s total points you have earned. Genius needs 70% of the points, and Queen Bee means you found every word on the puzzle’s list.

PLAY SMART

Practice Without Spoilers

This game builds its own random practice puzzles, so it never touches today’s official board. It is a safe way to warm up, to train for the daily puzzle or to run a quick word game in the classroom.

Stuck? The Hint button shows how many words, pangrams and points are left, grouped by first letter and word length. It never gives away a whole word. Reveal Answers shows everything that is left when you are ready to give up.

For the real daily puzzle, visit our hints page for gentle nudges before you open any full answers.

LEVEL UP

Tips to Win the Game

Shuffle often. Moving the outer letters around breaks your pattern and helps new words pop out.

Start short, then go long. Collect easy four-letter words first, then build them into longer ones.

Hunt for the pangram. Look for common endings such as -ING, -ED and -ION that use many of the letters.

Work the word forms. Add -S, -ED, -ER and -ING to words you have already found.

Use hints sparingly. The letter and length counts are often enough to restart your thinking.
